1. Pick the moment: sunset
Most yacht proposals happen at golden hour, the last hour of light before sunset. The light is soft, the skyline starts to glow, and photos look beautiful. A 3 to 4 hour charter gives you time to relax first, then propose as the sun goes down.
2. Choose the right yacht
- Just the two of you: a smaller yacht feels intimate, and the deck is yours.
- Family or friends on board: choose a yacht with a separate area where guests can wait out of sight until the big moment.
- Ask about the setup: a flybridge or open bow makes the best stage.
3. Set the scene
- Decor: florals, candles (LED on board), a "Marry me" sign, or rose petals, set up before you board.
- Champagne: chilled and ready for the moment after "yes."
- Music: a playlist on the yacht's sound system, or a live saxophonist for a bigger celebration.
4. Capture it
Book a photographer or videographer. They know where to stand, how to stay out of sight, and how to catch the reaction. Ask them to keep shooting for a few minutes after, because the happy tears are the best part.
5. Keep it a surprise
- Plan everything on WhatsApp, so your partner never sees an email.
- Give your partner a simple cover story, like a sunset cruise "for a friend's birthday."
- Agree on a signal with the crew and photographer for when you are ready.
6. Keep the ring safe
Keep the ring in its box until the moment, and propose in the middle of the deck rather than by the rail. It sounds obvious, but the water is very deep.
7. Have a weather plan
If the captain decides the weather is unsafe, your date moves to another day at no cost. Choose a backup date when you book, especially during summer afternoon storm season.
Let us plan it with you: we arrange the yacht, decor, champagne, and photographer, and coordinate every detail on WhatsApp. See the Proposal at Sea experience.
